Chadstone Shopping Centre - Our Favourite Mall
Shopping centre or mall is one of our favourite hanging out places during weekends or holidays. But the mall must fulfil certain specific criteria which are big, not so crowded, many parking spaces and has nice food court. Not to forget, the mall should have supermarket or hypermarket for us to do our grocery shopping.
We could spend hours in big mall even though most of the time we never buy anything. Just walking and window shopping inside our preferred department store or supermarket. Or if we were hungry, we just spent time in fast food restaurant or food court. In Malaysia we used to go to 1 Utama Shopping Centre for most of our shopping activities. The reason is because 1 Utama is the closest mall to our home.
So, when we arrived here in Clayton, one of our critical missions was to look for a shopping centre around the suburb. In the second week, we already found and went to a mall which is the largest in Melbourne. The mall is Chadstone Shopping Centre which is also known as Fashion Capital and located at Chadstone (East Malvern). We went there by walking from Monash City Council in South Oakleigh.
The first time we were there, we didn't finish to discover interesting outlets in the complex because it is so huge. We just went to Coles and Target stores to buy some grocery (No car during that time, couldn't buy many things). The second time at the mall was during Boxing Day. This time we went there by bus from Monash University. Unfortunately, the mall was so crowded with people trying to get discounted items. So, again we only went to certain parts of the mall.
From our reading, the Chadstone Shopping Centre has floor area of more than 137,o76m² with more than 457 stores and retail outlets available. Now, the complex is under extensive expansion which may increase the size to 170,000m². It houses major stores such as Myer, David Jones, Kmart, Target and Coles. Meanwhile Safeway and Big W are planned openning in 2009.
Surely, there is still a lot of things need to be discovered in the Chadstone Shopping Centre by us. We will keep you guys posted with latest information and findings.
